Dear Q&A User:
Enclosed, you will find a diskette with a "BETA" version of
QEXTRACT.EXE.
QEXTRACT is a Q&A database extraction utility. It will not "repair"
your database, but rather will extract your data, design, and even
programming into ASCII files which you can use to rebuild your file.
You will want to run in instances where both a Q&A "recovery" and
"export data" have been unsuccessful. Note that you will have better
results if you run this program on a copy of the database which has
not been through an unsuccessful attempt to "Recover database." An
unsuccessful recovery can cause further damage to the database. Use
this program on the backup copy you made before attempting recovery.
To start QEXTRACT, type QEXTRACT at the A:> prompt (or B:> prompt if
appropriate) and hit <enter>. The QEXTRACT menu contains 5 options:
extract data, extract form, extract programming, extract all, and
exit. . Once you make your selection, you will be prompted for the
directory path and filename of the database you are attempting to
extract. If you are not certain of the directory path of this
database, exit QEXTRACT and check before proceeding. Once you type in
the directory path and filename of your database (e.g.
C:\QA4\CLIENT.DTF) and press <enter>, you will be prompted for the
directory where you want QEXTRACT to place the extracted files. Enter
this directory path and hit <enter> and QEXTRACT will begin the
extraction process.
For further information on any of the menu options, or for tips on
rebuilding your database from the extracted files, you can press F1 at
the QEXTRACT menu for help.
Please remember that, like all "beta" versions of software, QEXTRACT
is still under development. Be sure to back up your database prior to
using this program, and remember that use of this software is solely
at your own risk.
